Running down the center of the Ciutat Vella (dividing the Raval and Barri Gòtic) is the boulevard La Rambla.
La Rambla stretches from Plaça Catalunya to the Mediterranean Sea and, now extends out over the sea into one of Barcelona's newest centers of entertainment, Maremagnum.

Festivals in Barcelona

The Festa de Sant Jordi (April 23) is the catalán take on Valentin's day, and officialy celebrates Cataluña's patron saint with a feast. Men give women roses, and women give books.

The Sonar(Mid of June) music festival comes to town in mid-June, attracting renowned DJs and electronica enthusiasts from all over the world from 3 days of concerts and parting.

Barcelona's main festival, the Festa de Sant Joan (23 of June), takes palce the night of June 23. You might as well surrender to all-night partying, in the street will keep your eyes wilde open anyway.

In the last 2 weeks of August 15th of August), city folk jam at Gracia's Festa Mayor, lights blaze in plaças and music plays all night as two dozen streets complete to be the best decorated.

On september 11, the Festa Nacional de Catalunya bring traditional costumes, dancing, and catalán flags hanging fron balconies.

The largest Barcelona celebration however, is the Festa de la Mercè the weeks before and after september 24. To honor the patron saint of the city, barceloneses revel with fireworks, sardana dancing, and concerts.

Santa Eulalìa the city's other patron saint, is celebrated February 12-13.
